Dr. Aviram Sharma is an Assistant Professor at the School of Ecology and Environment Studies at Nalanda University, India. He holds an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. degree in Science Policy from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and a Master degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Delhi, India. Before joining Nalanda University, he worked in different capacities with STEPS Centre (Social, Technological and Environmental Pathways to Sustainability), Institute of Development Studies, University of Sussex, UK and JNU, India. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Earth System Governance Project and Faculty Affiliate at Ostrom Workshop, Indiana University, USA. He has held visiting positions at the Centre for Research in Economic Sociology and Innovation (CRESI), Department of Sociology, University of Essex, UK; at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Science, Technology and Society (IAS-STS), Graz, Austria and at the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS), Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. He is currently working as an Associate Editor for a volume on SDGs in the Asia and Pacific Region (Springer) and is on the editorial board of Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society (Sage).
His research primarily employs an inter-disciplinary approach and lies on the interface of science and technology studies, environmental studies, and development studies. His research aims to address two broad sets of questions; one strand engages with the democratisation of decision-making and emerging multi-scale environmental governance landscape, and the other deals with the politics of sustainability in the global south.
